Secret of Success

Interview with Arthur Gensler, Architecture, Sep 98, Vol. 87, Issue 9 p. 67, 3p

1) How was Gensler firm started?

"... classmate of mine needed somebody to do ...."

It is ALWAYS easier to try and meet an existing NEED. Than to develop a SOLUTION (Product or Service Offering) then to go out and look for customers.

2) What is Gensler's expansion strategy?

3) What are the pros and cons of "hiring from within" vs. "hiring from the outside"?

4) What is their "market"?

Niche strategy: Large banks and law firms.

Most business is repeat business - Any implications for marketing strategy?

5) Are there other successful architecture business strategies?

6) What are some of the business roles that must all be played successfully in order to be profitable?

7) How does Gensler perceive individuals and the "team"?

What does Gensler think about the role of "communication" in Architecture?
