Estimating Software Analysis
Due by class time February 17RS Means Demo Source provides links to many Estimating Software packages. Your assignment is to download the software and gain familiarity with its capabilities and features. You are asked to give a very brief demo of your assigned software for the class.
Some of the things you should look for are:
- Who is this software designed for? - Large firms, take-off specialists, smaller contractors, sub-contractors (plumbing electrical), architects?
- How does it work? - Does it rely on estimating formulae? Does it require a digitizer and/or CAD drawings and makes use of geometry?
- Does it include costing and bidding components or does it only deal in material quantities?
- If it includes costs, where do they come from? Who provides the data?
- Do you like this software? Is it easy to use/learn?
- How expensive is it?
