The Arsenic Project Fall 2005
One-credit, honors independent study.
For the third consecutive semester, there is an opportunity to carry out research into an aspect of the analytical and environmental chemistry of arsenic in collaboration with Professor Tyson’s research group in the Department of Chemistry.
This opportunity is open to students taking Chem 111 and to students taking Chem 315, who will work in small groups (consisting of 2-4 Chem 111 students and 1-2 Chem 315 students) with a member of the Tyson group (most likely a graduate student) on a project related to the current research of the group.
The commitment needed is about two hours per week together with a willingness to be flexible in scheduling activities and to make a good faith effort to get involved. No previous experience of research is required or expected.
Written material will be provided to guide you through the semester, and you will have an experienced researcher (a graduate student) helping you.
The website (http://courses.umass.edu/chemh01/) contains lots of information about the project and what previous groups did.
Don't hesitate to e-mail Prof. Tyson with questions (tyson@chem.umass.edu).
To sign up, send Prof. Tyson an e-mail with your name, class and student id# and any other relevant information (such as preferred topic area, the name of someone else with whom you would like to work).
Deadline for signing up is end of the add-drop period: September 20th.
