The High Line is an adaptive reuse project, currently underway in New York City, which will convert an abandoned elevated rail track into a park. This 1.5-mile-long steel and concrete structure is located on Manhattan's West Side and spans twenty two blocks, from 34th Street near the Javits Convention Center to Gansevoort Street in the West Village.

If the project were to be completed, 6.7 acres of pedestrian oriented public open space would be created in a part of the city in which parks are severely lacking in number

The vision for this new park is bold. Proponents of the project have enlisted New York City's biggest architects and landscape architects, as well as community input, to produce a design that embraces both the past and future. Such a project would stand as a monument to the vibrant mix of warehouses, factories, ships, and trains that once occupied the West Side. Simultaneously, it would embrace the city's potential to be a leader in urban sustainability and innovative design.
