Media Log Instructions
- Various recordings and videos will be played in class during the semester. You "log" each one by making notes during class, then typing it into your media log computer file when you return home.
- Keep individual media log entries within a file on your own computer called "<Your Name> Log #," so that by the end of the semester, student Joe Jones should have a three separate files on his computer, one for each of the three media logs to be turned in, with the filenames: "Joe Jones Log 1," "Joe Jones Log 2," and "Joe Jones Log 3."
- Create the first of those files when you make your first media log entry. Several weeks into the class, after that file has been submitted, start a second file with a new number after your name., and when that one has been submitted, start a new, third file. (Dates for submitting these files can be found on the schedule page of the class website.)
- Each "Media Log" entry, no matter how short, must occupy its own separate page. Each entry--that is to say, each page--should have the following format:
- Your Name (Yes, on every page!)
- Date of the class to which this entry refers
- Name of the audio or video piece being reviewed
- Name of the composer, editor, or preparer of the item
- Brief description (1 line) of the item; for example, "Orchestral composition," or "Song," or "Music Video."
- A paragraph of 50-100 words giving your evaluation and reaction to the item. If you liked it or didn't like it, WHY?
The first five items on the list above should each be on their own, single-spaced line. Item 5 will be a paragraph following that.
-
Some recording or video will be played at most classes . If several different short pieces are played, give each one its own separate page, even though they were played in the same class. In short, make sure each item, no matter how brief, is on its own separate page in the file.
- When the media logs are to be submitted, attached the current file to an e-mail with the subject line, "MU 309 Media Log," and send it to the instructor.
