How to Use This Resource List

This list is to be used as a resource for identifying appropriate student teaching placements. It is a developing list of public information about schools that may be suitable for student teaching placements. Under no circumstance is it the final word on placements. Once a school is located, refer to the codes under "Level/Area" and "Resource" to determine the appropriateness of the site.

Sites that are coded with a "P" in the "Resource" column recently hosted a student teacher. As a result, they have been determined to meet MDOE, University, and Department guidelines for student teaching placements. Sites coded with an "O" provide a possible resource for field observations and pre-practica, and may be suitable as a student teaching placement. Sites coded with an "B" are locations where the teacher is new to the profession; they are not eligible to serve as a placement. Sites coded with an "N" are locations where the teacher is a veteran, but new to the position/school; they are not eligible to serve as a placement. All placements must be verified and approved by the Coordinator of Student Teaching in Music before a candidate may be placed.

For a site to be approved it must offer experiences consistent with licensing regulations. Supervising practitioners must hold a valid Massachusetts Initial or Professional License, and professional status* in the role in which the practicum supervision is being exercised. Supervising practitioners must also have at least five years of teaching experience.

* Professional status is awarded after three, consecutive, successful years of full-time teaching in a single position.

Key to "Level Area" and "Resource" Codes

E = Elementary School
M = Middle School
H = High School
C = Classroom
I = Instrumental
V = Vocal
T = Traveling (listed school is home school; travels to several buildings in the district)
O = Observation/Pre-Practicm Site (see clarification in paragraph 2 above)
P = Approved Practicum Site (see clarification in paragraph 2 above)
B = Teacher New to the Profession (less than 5 years of experience; see clarification in paragraph 2 above)
N = Veteran Teacher New to the School (see clarification in paragraph 2 above)
