Psy391D - Assignment 1

(This page last updated 24 Sept, 2004.)

1. Think about the mind/body problem, and the different solutions that have been discussed in class. They include:

2. Decide which solution seems best to you. If none of these seems right, you can create your own.

3. Write between one-half page and one page stating which solution you chose, and giving your reasons why. Don't just state your belief, but give me a convincing argument for that belief. As part of that argument, you may want to describe the weaknesses of the alternative theories that led you to reject them.

Be sure your writing is clear and well organized. You should think carefully about how to organize the paper before you start writing. I suggest that you look at the web page for guidelines on how to write assignments for this class.

For this paper, I am asking for your own thoughts, so you may not need to cite any outside sources. However, if any ideas come from the textbook or other sources, be sure to include the appropriate references. Contact me if you have questions about references.

The assignment is due Tuesday, Sep 28 at the beginning of class.

You can e-mail the paper to me, or hand it in at the beginning of class.

You are always welcome to ask me questions as you work on the assignment.
